Pilot Flight Tracker is a GPS-based flight logging app designed specifically for sport and general aviation pilots. Just tap Start before your flight, place your phone in the cockpit, and fly. The app automatically detects your takeoffs, landings, and touch-and-go maneuvers using GPS speed data — no manual input needed during the flight. After landing, you get a complete session summary: total flight time, number of circuits, max altitude, max and average speed, and a colored flight path on the map. You can rate each flight, add personal notes (weather conditions, observations, what you practiced), and export your flight path to Google Earth for a stunning 3D replay. It’s your personal digital flight diary.
Pilot Flight Tracker gives you an objective, data-driven record of every training session. After a lesson, you can review each student’s circuits individually — see their flight paths, speeds, altitude patterns, and consistency ratings. The colored map segments make it easy to debrief: „Your second circuit was wider than the first“ or „You were too fast on final approach.“ You can export all flight data to Excel (XLSX) for record-keeping, and share KML files with students so they can review their flights in Google Earth at home. The quick comment field lets you tag each session with the student’s name for easy reference later.
Think of it as your personal flight coach that never forgets. After every training session, you can review exactly what happened — which circuits were consistent, where you drifted off the pattern, how your approach speeds compared across laps. The 5-star rating system and notes field let you build a personal flight journal: track your progress from your first circuit to your first solo. Export your flights to Google Earth and see your training from a completely new perspective in 3D. Many students find that reviewing their flight paths helps them understand their instructor’s feedback much better.
Pilot Flight Tracker helps you keep a detailed log of every flight made in your aircraft. Each session records the date, duration, aircraft registration, and flight path. You can export all flight data to Excel for maintenance tracking, insurance documentation, or simply keeping an accurate flight hour record. If multiple pilots fly your aircraft, the quick comment field can be used to note who flew each session. All data stays on the device – your aircraft’s flight history is always in your pocket.
Pilot Flight Tracker can serve as a supplementary training tool for your school. Instructors can use the app to record training sessions with automatic circuit detection, then debrief students using the colored map view and detailed flight statistics. The Excel export feature is particularly valuable — export all flights within a date range to get a complete overview of training activity: dates, durations, number of circuits, aircraft type, and student names (via the quick comment field). The app works completely offline and requires no account setup, making it easy to deploy across your instructor team. Students can install it on their own phones for free to track their solo flights as well.
Even if you’re not a pilot, you can use Pilot Flight Tracker to create an amazing souvenir of your flight experience! Just start the app before takeoff and let it run during your sightseeing flight. After landing, you’ll have a complete record of your route, altitude, and speed. The best part: export your flight to Google Earth and relive the experience in stunning 3D – see exactly where you flew, how high you were, and share the interactive flight path with friends and family. No aviation knowledge needed – just tap Start and enjoy your flight!
Here is embedded video of how to export collected flight data, and to import it to Google Earth, to analyze your flight. Works with mobile and desktop version of Google Earth.
Yes! Tap the spreadsheet icon in the top-right corner of the home screen. You can select a date range and export all your flights to a standard XLSX file. The export includes: date, start and end time, aircraft type, registration, airfield, number of flights, touch-and-go count, full stop count, total flight time, max speed, max altitude, average speed, and your rating and notes. Open the file in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet application for further analysis, filtering, and reporting.
No. Pilot Flight Tracker works completely offline. The app uses your phone’s built-in GPS to record flight data – no internet connection, no account, and no login required. Your data is stored locally on your device. The only feature that benefits from an internet connection is the automatic weather (METAR) fetch when you enter an ICAO airfield code before your flight, but this is entirely optional.
No — and this is by design. Pilot Flight Tracker requires zero interaction once you tap „Let’s Fly“. There are no buttons to press, no screens to check, and no alerts to dismiss while airborne. The app silently records your GPS data in the background, even with the screen locked. Takeoffs, landings, and touch-and-go maneuvers are all detected automatically based on your GPS speed. Your full attention stays where it belongs — on flying the aircraft. After you land and shut down, simply open the app and tap Stop to save your session. That’s it.
Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the top-right corner of the home screen. You’ll see threshold cards for each aircraft type: Glider, TMG, SEP, Trike, and Custom. Each card shows the current takeoff and landing detection speeds. Use the + and − buttons to adjust, or tap the value to type in a specific number. The default value is shown in brackets for reference. If you want to start over, tap the reset icon to restore the original values. These thresholds determine at what GPS speed the app recognizes a takeoff or landing, so adjust them to match your aircraft’s characteristics.
Yes. All flight data is stored locally on your device. If you uninstall the app, your data will be permanently deleted. We strongly recommend exporting your flights to Excel (XLSX) regularly as a backup. Cloud backup and sync features are planned for a future update.
The app comes with optimized presets for Glider, TMG (Touring Motor Glider), SEP (Single Engine Piston), and Trike (weight-shift microlight). There is also a Custom option where you can define your own detection thresholds for any other aircraft type. Each preset has carefully calibrated takeoff and landing speed thresholds based on real-world flight data, and you can fine-tune them in Settings to match your specific aircraft.
Yes, Pilot Flight Tracker is completely free. All features — GPS tracking, automatic flight detection, flight statistics, map view, Google Earth (KML) export, Excel export, and multi-language support — are included at no cost. No ads, no subscriptions, no hidden fees. Advanced features such as AI-powered flight analysis are planned for a future Pro version.
Yes. Once you start a tracking session, the app continues recording GPS data in the background even if you lock your screen or switch to another app. This is important for saving battery during longer flights. Just make sure you’ve granted the app permission to access your location „Always“ or „While Using“ depending on your device.
