One of the most common questions we hear

How long does it take to master a programming language, or to learn programming and IT technologies?

This is one of the most common questions we get, both during training and seminars we conduct, as well as in informal conversations.

If we’re talking specifically about a programming language, our answer is:

  1. You need one real-world project…
  2. … with real requirements
  3. … with real problems to solve
  4. … and a real deadline for completion

In short, you need at least one year of practical work before you can say you know programming in a given language. Anything shorter is just an introduction to the basics and a fraction of the possibilities.
